Capello urges Beckham Euro return

David Beckham has revealed England coach Fabio Capello has told him he has to be playing in Europe before next summer's World Cup in South Africa.

Beckham went on loan to AC Milan last season to boost his England chances.

The former England captain is now back with LA Galaxy preparing for his MLS comeback against New York Red Bulls.

But he said: "Leading up to the World Cup, the England manager has made it very clear to me that I need to be playing at a European level."

Beckham, 34, has already hinted he would now consider a return to the Premier League, despite admitting he would find it difficult to play against former club Manchester United

Baxter says Crues can go through

Crusaders manager Stephen Baxter believes his Irish League part-timers can overcome FK Rabotnicki and progress to the next stage of the Europa League.

The sides drew 1-1 at Mourneview Park on Tuesday with the Irish League side missing a penalty and having defender Colin Coates sent-off.

"We are not celebrating, because we should have won the game," said Baxter.

"Now we can play them away with a bit of confidence. We will go to try to win the match."

FA faces Setanta cash shortfall

Sports broadcaster Setanta's entry into administration has left the Football Association seeking new rights deals for matches valued at £100m.

Setanta was due to show England's home friendlies and the Community Shield, as well as some England Under-21 and FA Cup games over the next three years.

"We remain confident in the strength of these fixtures," said FA chief executive Ian Watmore.

The FA were 12 months into a four-year deal worth £150m with the channel.

Bristol City deny deal for Cooper

Bristol City have denied making a bid for United States international striker Kenny Cooper.

Manager Gary Johnson is in the market for a target-man but says newspaper reports claiming the club have agreed a £2m deal are wide of the mark.

"We do know of him of course but we've been following a lot of strikers," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.

Williams signs new Wrexham deal

Wrexham's longest-serving player, defender Mike Williams, has penned a new contract at the Racecourse.

"I'm pleased it's all settled now and I'm concentrating on the year ahead," Williams, 22, told the Wrexham website.

"We've had a taste of the Conference now, we know what it's all about and want to be up at the top of the table looking for a return to the league."
