Shuttle launches carrying Canadian Payette
The shuttle Endeavour lifted off Wednesday carrying seven astronauts, including Canadian Julie Payette, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida en route to the International Space Station.
The shuttle launched at 6:03 p.m. ET despite earlier concerns that weather might again force NASA to postpone the mission.
Watching from the ground at the space centre, fellow Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield described the launch as "just perfect."

CSIS ignored human-rights concerns and did not take Omar Khadr's age into account in deciding to interview him at the U.S. military's Guantanamo Bay prison, says a report from the independent committee that oversees the spy agency.
The Toronto-born Khadr, now 22, is being held at the U.S. detention centre in Cuba for allegedly throwing a grenade in Afghanistan when he was 15, killing an American soldier. He is the only Western citizen still detained at Guantanamo.

Bandidos boss planned to 'screw' Toronto chapter: murder trial witness
A key witness in the trial of six men charged with murdering members of the Bandidos biker gang in southwestern Ontario testified Wednesday that the head of the gang's Winnipeg chapter said it was time to "screw Toronto" and work with Bandidos in Washington state instead.
The witness is a former Bandido from the Winnipeg chapter turned police informant who can only be identified as M.H. because he is now in a witness protection program.
